
Angelica Zavala is a 20-year-old drummer of Honduran descent based in the Greater Toronto Area. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Music at Humber College, a respected Canadian institution for post-secondary music education. Angelica was the 2021 recipient of the Wragg Family Scholarship, an award presented to a student entering Humber College’s music degree program who shows promising potential.
Angelica has studied Jim Blackley’s approach to jazz drumming through his former student Colin McVey. She has also had the chance to study with Grammy, Latin Grammy, and Juno nominated drummer Marito Marques. Angelica performs regularly around Toronto and continues to grow her musicianship by exploring various musical genres. She has performed with Tara Moneka, Astrid Tanton, Camille Léon, and many others.
As a young woman in the music industry, Angelica wants to bring recognition to her Honduran roots and inspire young girls to pursue music as well.
